Sharing Family Photos

I have a very large extended family, and, as grandparents and parents have passed on, the family photos have also been spread far and near. I’ve been going through some old family photos with my Mom recently trying to find out who the people in the pictures are and how they are related to me.

I’ve also noticed cousins and other family members occasionally posting pictures on Facebook–some I’ve never seen and many I’ve seen before but not in a long time. Recently I came up with the idea of creating a secret Facebook page for family members to share photos and memories. I invited all my extended family members to join the group and started it with a picture of my grandparents and their grandchildren taken more than 50 years ago.

I’ve been thrilled so far by the pictures and memories shared by the group. I’ve seen pictures I’ve never seen before and some I’ve never seen. I’ve saved all of them to my computer so I can collect them and share them with my children and grandchildren. Most of all, I’ve been able to identify the faces in the pictures and locate them in my family tree.

I’m very excited about this new project and would recommend it to anyone else with a desire to collect and share photos and memories of the past.
